Can You Offer Mobile Subscriptions?

Posted by busViews on July 24, 2009

People who own their own businesses should always look for new ways to generate income. For example, a lot of people sell products on their website (such as ebooks or T-shirts) to get a little bit more revenue from their existing customers. One thing that you might want to look into if you own your own business is the possibility of offering mobile subscriptions to your customers.

Mobile subscriptions are simply subscriptions to services that people may receive on their mobile phones. Subscriptions to download music to a phone or to download mobile movies are the most common types of subscriptions. However, you can charge people for anything that they might download to the phone. You can also charge them for receiving text messages. You can find a creative way to do this to make some money.

For example, let’s say that you’re a freelance writer. You could offer a subscription for people to receive a daily writing tip or writing prompt via text. They pay for the service using SMS billing. You send the text to them each morning. It’s a little bit more money in your pocket and it doesn’t require a lot of work on your part. Thinking like this will help you increase your total annual profits.

Who Is Hosted FTP Service For?

Posted by busViews on July 18, 2009

Do you need hosted FTP service for your website? I recently read a description of this type of service that perfectly sums up who would need it. The description was:

“FTP hosting is perfect for customers who need to share or store large files on a high speed network at a fair price.”

Breaking this down, we can see what factors to look at to determine if you need hosted FTP service:

  1. A need to share or store large files. You want to get this service if you share a lot of images, videos or other big files. If you’re using free online storage and it’s not covering what you need then you might need hosted FTP service.
  2. A desire for a high speed network. If you don’t have all day to sit around waiting for those shared files to get to the person who needs to see them then you might want to look into getting hosted FTP service to speed things up.
  3. A budget that you have to work in. You want to choose a type of hosted FTP service that’s going to give you what you need without costing an arm and a leg.

If those three things sound like you then this is something to look into.

Holding an Off-Site Meeting

Posted by busViews on July 17, 2009

A great way to re-energize your office is to hold a large staff meeting off-site. This allows you to get business done while giving everyone a much-needed break from the tension that builds up in an office.

Ideas for places to hold this type of meeting include:

  • Hotels. Your best choice is to rent out the meeting room of a local hotel. This is cheaper in some places than others. For example, Atlanta hotels tend to be cheaper than Los Angeles hotels for meetings. Ask about Choice hotel deals offered to local businesses so that you can keep costs down.
  • Another office. If you have multiple offices then you can host a meeting at the site of one of them and invite everyone from the other offices to join you.
  • Local meeting rooms. Small businesses can fit their staff into a small meeting room at a local library or public events space.

You’ll have to decide how much money you’re willing to spend on this. You should also consider what materials need to be accessible (such as laptops or projector screens for presentations). Pick a focus for the meeting and stick to it. This makes it something that benefits the business even while making employees happier with their jobs.

Construction Work Requires Discretion

Posted by busViews on July 14, 2009

Try to think of a job that requires discretion. You probably didn’t think of a construction position. However, it is actually very important that construction workers are able to be discrete about the projects that they are working on. That’s because they sometimes build things that others don’t need to know about until the work is complete.

For example, I once knew a construction worker who was part of a team that was helping to build a new Florida drug rehab center. He let it leak that he was working on this. The problem was that the treatment center hadn’t gotten the right zoning approval yet for the type of business that they were. This created a lot of legal problems for the business. It was eventually all straightened out but the problems never would have come up if my friend had kept quiet.

Construction workers may find themselves needing to be discrete when building prisons, psychiatric facilities and other places that might frighten the neighbors in the area. This allows for the construction to go smoothly without interference from people who have concerns about the building. If they were dealing with those people, the construction process wouldn’t be so safe. So you may not think of construction as something to be discrete about but it can be depending on the project that you’re working on.
