One of the things that many business owners do at this time of year is to look at their books and determine how much taxes they need to pay. It is a great time of year to see how much profit that your operations have made and determine if you should spend some of that money to minimize your tax burden.
In the case of our business, we had a lackluster year and though we did make money, we sure didn’t make a whole lot. Unfortunately our customers didn’t spend as much thanks to the recession, so though we were profitable, we sure didn’t do too well.
So we found ourselves in a position where we could either pay taxes on the little profit that we did make, or upgrade some of our equipment to put us in a better position to serve our customers next year.
We decided that upgrading some of our equipment was a better business choice, so we purchased a couple of new computers as well as bought a secure digital high capacity card for our digital camera.
Hopefully our business will do better next year and we will have to pay some taxes. Even though many people complain about them, needing to pay taxes is a sign of success.

One of the things that I really loved having the parents that I did was that they were both business oriented entrepreneurs. They had their feet in a lot of different businesses and they talked about their experiences (good and bad) every night at the supper table.
Each night was like reading a new chapter in a book, and we learned about the challenges and successes that they experienced. It was nice too that they allowed us to ask questions if we were curious, and they were happy to explain things to us in a way that we would understand.
I was really amazed at how many people they touched through their businesses and how they looked at their roles in society to help provide people with a living through their businesses. We learned how important it was to give to others and how hoarding money was not the road to success and happiness.
I particularly loved the story they told one night how they had helped many of the cooking schools in culinary arts in the area to grow by providing them a larger building for their students at a discounted rate. Sure, they were in it for a profit, but they also saw the bigger picture: the students that attended these culinary arts institutes were potential future employees of the restaurants that they owned, and by helping them out, they were making sure that there would be a large number of qualified chefs in the area for them to choose from.
Even though I am grown up now, I still think that those discussions about business that we had around the supper table helped to shape me into the successful entrepreneur that I am today.

Banks in India want to sell gold. It’s not just that they’re hoping people will buy gold from them. Over the last ten years business has been very good. In fact, our small medical clinic has grown in leaps and bounds and we serve thousands of customers each week. Though there have been a few challenges along the way, I would have to say the worst would be the number of patient files.
Ten years ago, we had one room dedicated to storing our patient files. It wasn’t too hard to find the files that you were looking for and one room wasn’t a lot of space. It was a very efficient method at the time and served us very well.
But now, ten years later, we are bursting at the seams. The files now take up nearly twenty five percent of our building and we are pretty much out of room. Also, finding a specific file is a big headache and it is typical to spend over ten minutes to find the one that you want.
So, we have been in talks with some document management software vendors to see if there are some products that could work with our needs. Since computer storage is very affordable, I think that it would make sense to find some document scanning solutions, scan all of the client files, and free up the space that was previously occupied by all of our file cabinets.
It will be nice to get rid of the file cabinets and have room for a few more offices – it might be just what we need to justify hiring another doctor for the office which would be good for us and our patients.

Despite the current market, real estate is still a good thing to invest in — perhaps now more than ever, actually, since prices are so low. If “buy low, sell high” is your motto, real estate is in a perfect place for you right now!
Of course, everyone is a bit touchy about real estate right now. Lenders are being pickier than they used to be, and some of their new standards are hitting investors more than people who are looking for a primary residence. For instance, if you are buying something as an investment property, keep in mind that you’ll have to either qualify for both mortgages at the same time, or be able to pay 30 percent down on the investment property, OR have six months of mortgage payments in savings. Even investors need to be able to afford to pay the mortgage!
Another thing is to make sure that the homeowners association in the neighborhood where your investment property will be isn’t going to be a problem. Some HOAs tend to be a bit resentful of investment properties, because people in rentals tend to be more trouble than people in a house they own. They might expect you to attend meetings, even if you don’t live there, or at least keep up on the issues facing the HOA — good HOA management ought to make this fairly easy to do.

For the past fifteen years, I have been running the family business and we have enjoyed some great successes. Our transport company has grown to a staff of just over two hundred people and we transport goods all over North America. It has been a great run, and I am really proud of how things have gone.
Until recently, the business has been trouble free and things have bee going well. But everything changed last month when one of our clients accused our company of stealing from them. I can’t name names (due to legal reasons of course), but they have backed us in a corner and we are going to fight back.
I did a search for the best Tampa criminal lawyers and narrowed it down to a small list of criminal attorneys that we might use. We are looking to get the best one out there as we don’t want to lose (even though we are innocent). This court case will be damaging enough to our reputation as it is, and if we lose, chances are we will have to shut down the company.
By getting the best defense lawyer, I hope to mount a great offence and save the company from these false accusations.
